Monique Robidoux

Monique Robidoux received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Apparel Design and an MFA in Web Design New Media from the Academy of Art University. In tandem with her design career, she continued to paint — portraits of people, animals, and homes in watercolor. In recent years Monique has studied under Meredith Rosier at the Woodstock School of Art, expanding her portfolio to include abstract drawings and paintings in oil, acrylics, and in mixed media and collage.

Her abstract paintings are displayed in galleries throughout lower New York state, featured in various shows and fairs, and her pieces adorn numerous homes in the northern and eastern United States. In addition, Monique paints landscapes, and commissioned artwork in both abstract and realist styles.

Statement

The focus for my art is to create works that evoke light, depth, and energy using juxtapositions of color and contrast. I have an emotional feeling about color that becomes a physical sensation that I can process into what I create. I seek to achieve luminosity by blending colors and situating them in contrasting ways to create these illusions of light and buoyancy. My goal is to evoke strong emotional responses to color and light in the same way that they affect me. My work is intuitive and visceral – both organic and sometimes with geometric references. Nature is always at the back of my mind when I paint, no matter how bright or unnatural they may sometimes seem. In my realist landscapes I try to infuse the emotion and energy that I feel when I am moved by a scene or vista that captures my mind and heart. My sense of shape and form find inspiration in clouds, water, plant life, and wildlife, from grand vistas to granular observation. Light informs color and I try to grasp those nuances in my work.
