Geary Gallery presents “The Illustrious Palette,” featuring the breathtaking still lifes and marine paintings of Concetta Volpe.

The Geary Gallery of Darien proudly presents its May exhibit, “The Illustrious Palette,” featuring the breathtaking still lifes and marine paintings of Stamford artist Concetta Volpe. Her exhibit will be on display May 3-27, 2023. The Geary Gallery is located at 576 Boston Post Road in Darien. All are welcome and admission is free.

About Concetta Volpe

Concetta E. Volpe is known for the illustrious colors on her palette. Her paintings are commissioned by private collectors and are displayed in homes and offices throughout the United States.

Her portrait artwork has also been published on t-shirts, sold in music stores and worn by Chris Robinson, lead singer of “The Black Crowes” rock band.

As a young artist, Volpe won prizes for her art and drawings as early as elementary school. Growing up in New England, she spent many summers at the beach and has traveled throughout the United States, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia, Canada. She is inspired to capture nature with its wondrous colors and all its subtleties of light and dark shades due to her travels to the Appalachian and Blue Ridge Mountains. Although her career started with portraits and fashion designs, her travels have developed her interest in landscapes created in multi mediums. She often prepares her own linen using the old master technique of rabbit skin glue to size the linen and seals it with a white oil ground.

Volpe is an avid “en plein air” painter who believes in capturing the atmospheric light and true colors of nature. She can visit the same outdoor location and it will never be the same.  The weather, the sky, the water, and the earth are always different. Her paintings record what she sees and feels at the places that she visits. She likes wandering and exploring the earth, and gazing out at the ever-changing skies.

She also enjoys portraits and is appreciated for both her technical skill at capturing the outward likeness of her subjects, as well as for the sensitive and insightful portrayal of their characters and personalities.

She has won many awards for her paintings, including “Best in Show” for the Art Society of Old Greenwich 2012 Juried show theme “Scapes Galore,” and she also has won four first place awards for her landscapes.

Volpe studied through her sophomore year at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and received her BFA in painting and drawing from SUNY Purchase.  She has formally studied with John Phillip Osborne, and also has studied with Enzo Russo, Dennis Lyall, and Stephen Douglas with the Greenwich Art Society and Greenwich Continuing Education in Greenwich, CT.
