Grant is a local resident who works out of his home workshop in Darien to create wood-art and furniture in his spare time.
Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Grant has always loved working with wood. A fascination with precision detail and the way in which line and light work in concert to create shape from shadow, led Grant towards his latest series of geometric creations.
Grant’s work is a bridge between the freedom of creative thought and the simplicity of engineering accuracy. His creative process begins with the original, intangible idea and spans the drawing board, the lumber choice, precision machining and assembly, to create wall art that appears three-dimensional and seems to change as the viewer moves around it. As in life, each piece offers a range of perspectives, that depend on the viewer, the light, and the environment, as much as the artwork itself.
Grant finds the process rewarding and calming. And hopes you enjoy the result as much as he loves creating it.
