Kim Muller-Thym

Growing up on a farm in Maryland, Kim has always loved nature and being outdoors. In 2004, she moved with her husband to Old Saybrook on the Connecticut River. There Kim has immersed herself in the beauty of New England’s shoreline, painting seascapes and landscapes.

For the past ten years, Kim has painted exclusively in oils. Her style is impressionistic, directly inspired by what she sees and feel outdoors. She usually does 9” X 12” plein air studies which she then converts to larger paintings in the studio. She has strong brush strokes and an appreciation for color, light and the effects of weather. She has sold her work in several one person shows and in galleries in New York City, Maryland, Virginia and Connecticut. Her work has also been exhibited in numerous juried shows in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Arizona.

Kim’s background is eclectic. She earned a BA in German Literature and an MFA in Applied Psychology. She spent twenty years as a ceramics artist, including a year in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and many years at the Maryland Institute College of Art as a student, and then as a graphics instructor. She also spent thirty years in journalism as a writer, editor and art director for various magazines and newspapers. She is most excited by her new job as a full-time artist.
