Margaret Ulecka-Wilson

Pottery by Margaret Ulecka-Wilson celebrating our connection with the Earth.

Manipulating and displaying the resources of the earth has been a revelation and inspiration since she first felt the soft form of clay and then held the finished creations up to the light. The ability to create the form imagined, combined with the variability and unexpected results of the process delight and exasperate her with each unique and special piece!

Originally from Poland, she follows the artistic traditions of her father, who was a celebrated painter in Warsaw. His love of the town and countryside of his native land held him in thrall throughout his life and was reflected in his work. She now draws inspiration from her surroundings here in Connecticut, and hopes her respect and love for nature lives in her creations. Her education in biology and chemistry gives her knowledge and insight into life forms of our world where the question is always how to show movement, the effect of wind and water, on classic forms and shapes of ceramics. Through her expect control of sculpture, composition and color, each uniquely different piece represents the infinite possibilities of nature.

Margaret lives and works in Connecticut with her husband and cat for company, and is currently an independent artist working out of her Erector Square studio in New Haven. She developed her insights as a studio potter at the Creative Art Workshop in New Haven for a number of years, and now finds time and family are the constant framework for her artistic endeavors.

Margaret is a member of the New Haven Paint and Clay Club where she was awarded the 2012 Jafferis Prize, and was a member of the Elm City Artists gallery in New Haven for a number of years. Her work has been shown in juried exhibitions including Spectrum Gallery in Essex, CT; Fire House Gallery in Milford, CT; Orange Library, CAW and Paint and Clay Club. She has also been a returning artist at the annual Celebration Sale in CAW and participates in the October Citywide Open Studio in New Haven. Margaret’s pottery has been featured in the film short, “The Long Shadow.” Her works can be found in private collections around the world and are truly treasures for any collector.

This year she created a series of guardian angels to protect her family and friends. In these tumultuous times they bring hope and comfort to the world. Her wish is that why may spread joy as you share them with your loved ones and bring cheer to any holiday celebration.
